Day 22 of Running an AI-Powered Site – Tackling Site Speed for AdSense Approval!

AI Blogging & Monetization

Hello, this is Kumo Higashi, head of AI Side Hustle Lab.

On this blog, I document my real-life experiences running a side hustle blog while leveraging AI tools like ChatGPT and Gemini to create content.
In today’s post, I want to share my personal experience of anxiously waiting for Google AdSense approval since my last application.

The Anxiety Since My Last Application

Ever since I submitted my previous AdSense application, I’ve been feeling nervous every single day.
I even kept asking ChatGPT over and over, “What can I do to get approved?” (Yes, I was persistent!)

AI provided various tips for passing the review.
But one thing caught my attention the most: a warning about page load speed in Google Site Kit.

Could Page Speed Affect Approval?

When I checked Site Kit, it showed 8.5 seconds loading time.
ChatGPT warned me:

“If your pages load too slowly, it can hurt user experience and may cause your AdSense application to be rejected.”

Yikes… I knew I had to act fast! So I immediately started investigating the cause.

The Culprit: Heavy Images

After checking, I found that while desktop performance was okay, the mobile version had uncompressed images, some as large as 800 KB each.

No wonder the pages were slow!
Slow mobile loading not only frustrates users but also increases the risk of AdSense rejection. So I needed to fix this immediately.

Using a Plugin to Compress Images

As a solution, I installed an image compression plugin on WordPress.
After compressing all images, the page load time improved to 3.5 seconds!

This drastically reduced stress for mobile users and brought the site closer to meeting AdSense requirements.

AI Made Speed Optimization Smoother

Once again, I relied on ChatGPT and Gemini to guide me through the process:

  • Identifying the cause of slow loading

  • Suggesting the best plugins and compression methods

  • Checking mobile display and optimization

Having AI help me meant I always knew the next steps, making the process much more efficient and stress-free.

Summary: Feeling More at Ease

While the anxiety of waiting for AdSense approval isn’t over yet, improving page speed has certainly eased my mind.

Key takeaways:

  • Mobile image compression is essential

  • Page speed directly impacts user experience

  • AI is incredibly helpful for identifying issues and suggesting fixes

The journey to AdSense approval isn’t finished, but today I enjoyed growing my site with AI support.

Next time, I’ll share the results of the AdSense review!
Thank you for following along and supporting me.
